NAISH KITE RACE SERIES KICKS OFF
The first event of the Naish Summer Kite Race Series was a great success. Forty-eight kiters (six of them girls) signed up for the action and by 8am the sand was already flying and everyone knew we were in for some serious cranking Maui winds.

The Aguera family shone in their home conditions, with father Alex winning all 3 heats of the race board class, followed closely by his daughters, Kalia and Alexis, who placed on the podium in every race class.

Kiteboarding pioneer, Don Montague and Des Walsh, Naish Kite Team manager battled it out for second place in the race board division. While in the surfboard division (which had the most participants by far), the racing was very tight the entire way. In the end, a very fast Patri McLaughlin beat Naish kiteboard designer, Greg Drexler, who used all his surfboard technical knowledge to come in a close second.

The racing was also very tight in the Twintip division, and Flash Austin was full of excitement and stoke as he flew through the course to come in first. Finally, the strong winds brought us perfect conditions for the Shadow Box high jump contest. Maui local, Shawn Richman rocketed to first at 56.6 ft, followed by Naish Kiteboarding TV editor Olivier Sautet at 53.8 feet and Flash Austin at 49.8 ft.
