SOUTHAMPTON, PLYMOUTH AND BRISTOL LOOKING TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION IN FRESHERS WEEK
See below for details of how to get your freshers on the water this October. Let us know your plans - hello@studentkitesurfing.co.uk

Good evening everyone,

So the academic year of 2010-2011 is over. Exams are a distant memory, and the summer is in full swing, but now you're starting to ask yourself the question, what am I going to do to get my student kitesurfing fix next year? No? Well we are, which is why we've drafted next year's calendar for y'all to start getting excited about.

We won't start on that yet, because we like saving the best until last, but instead we'd like to have a quick recap on the SKA's first year back on the beach.

We'd like to say a big thanks for coming to our events this year, and we hope that you've enjoyed them as much as we did organising them. From the beginner event in 'gennith to the, in the words of Ali Shepherd, of Beach Break Live main stage fame, 'really quite breezy' wave jam, we've had a sick time and would also like to thank the SKA's sponsors for the support.

If you were living under a rock in June, and didn't witness the sickness of Beach Break, then take our words for it when we say that it was mega. We had Ali B win the freestyle jam, with Tom Shaw of Bath and Carlos Rae of Plymouth (sort of) come in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. All with plenty of music and food of questionable hygiene in between.

So anyway, enough of the soppy stuff. Let's get down to the business of 2011-2012. Check out the calendar below; much the same as last years, we know, but why mess with a winning formula ay? We have a plethora of events to cater for every type of student kitesurfer, and even ones for those who are just keen on watching/drinking.

CLUB NEWS

Exeter Uni Pres takes on Icelandic challenge:
Dom Mc Bride, President at Exeter next year, is accompanying three wheel-chair bound athletes 300km across Vatnajokull in Iceland...by snowkite. Click here for more on this phenomenal adventure.
http://www.icelandic-challenge.com/
SUKS and BUKS make it work in Alvor, Portugal: For Easter this year, SUKS and BUKS took a total of 60 people out to the Algarve to visit Nelsons kite school, for less £350 a head (incl. flights). Matt Desmond from SUKS had such a sweet time he's out there teaching now, making a killing working 4 hours a day in board shorts. If this sounds like your kind of place get in touch with Nelson on nelsonrdnunes@hotmail.com, or visit the school online at http://www.alvorkitecenter.com
And in other news...

2-4th September, Rhosneigr Park Jam
The Rhossy Park Jam is the UK's premier wakestyle event, and attracts the best of British every year. Everyone is welcome to take part in the event, so if you want to kick it with the pros, this is the place to be. Check it out on Facebook here http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=265755530102264&ref=ts

2-4 September, Lodestar Music Festival
If that's not your bag, the Lodestar music festival is taking place on the same weekend. Based in land, this is primarily a music festival but rumour has it there's a large kite flying contingent, and few events are likely to get you closer to bands like the Magic Numbers. Check that out here. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=189866397707866

Or, if you'd rather do your kitesurfing sat at your desk with your feet up, check out http://www.loopingit.com/, a new kitesurfing social network. Promising to be the next big thing in the kitesurfing community, it's not yet live, but you can check it out and sign up to be the first online when it is.
If you have any feedback for us, or if you fancy getting involved with the SKA this year, just email Ben 'Wilson' Gillespie at hello@studentkitesurfing.co.uk

Oh and also check out our new site. It's a treat for the eyes.

Peace out, and may the rest of your summer go well, whether you're being a bum, travelling the world, or doing an internship. Just make sure that you get out on the water!
